What is ADHD?
ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is typically diagnosed in childhood, although it can persist into adulthood. ADHD is characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning and self-development.
The symptoms of ADHD can vary widely between individuals, but they generally fall into two categories; inattentiveness and hyperactivity/impulsivity. Symptoms of inattentiveness may include difficulty paying attention, forgetfulness, disorganization, and distractibility. Symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity may include restlessness, fidgeting, impulsiveness, and difficulty waiting or taking turns.
While the exact causes of ADHD are not fully understood, it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factions. ADHD is often treated with a combination of medication, behavioral therapy, and support services. With appropriate treatment and support, individuals with ADHD can manage their symptoms and lead a more successful and fulfilling life.
